My Approach to Working with Adolescents

Adolescence can be a very difficult time. From the Pre-teen to Young Adult years, existence can be very complicated within and between the different facets of life; school, peers, family. I work from a Cognitive Behavioral theoretical perspective focusing on changing thinking, feeling, and behaviors to encourage growth and change and learning of new and needed strategies and skills for now and the future.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship facilitates the process of change. I establish a trusting relationship with each client as a basis for working together. I work with clients on a variety of issues including:

-
Anxiety
-
Depression
-
Asperger’s Syndrome
-
Social Skills Deficits
-
ADHD
-
Academic Issues
-
Behavioral Problems
-
Peer Relationships
-
Performance Anxiety
Whether it is Middle School, High School, or College, education maintains an important and significant part of an adolescent’s life. I have worked extensively within both public and private schools helping students to address difficulties in learning. As a Nationally Certified School Psychologist for over 15 years, I have an in-depth knowledge of the special education system. In addition to working through issues related to school, I can perform psychoeducational assessments and consult with parents as they try to navigate the special education process or to access help for their student through Section 504 Accommodations Plan.
I have been committed throughout my professional life to working with Preteens, Adolescents, and Young Adults. I believe that successfully navigating this potentially difficult and confusing time of life can improve a person’s future development and the ability to live a happy and productive life.
