Q:  How can I get therapy started?

A:  The process starts when you either call my office number or send me an email through the link provided on the contact page of this web site.  A brief conversation over the phone will provide enough information to decide if we should move forward.  If we agree to begin working together, an initial session will be scheduled.

Q: What can I expect in the first session?

A:  The first session or two are all about gathering information for my initial assessment.  This will provide a focus for therapy and give direction for setting treatment goals and developing a treatment plan.

Q:  How long are therapy sessions?

A:  Therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes long.

Q:  How many sessions are typical in a week?

A:  It is standard practice to schedule one session a week, at the same time each week. There may be times that treatment indicates a need for more than 1 session a week but that is generally for the short term.  As treatment progresses, it is not uncommon to go from weekly sessions to meeting every other week.  At the termination of treatment, some patients move to an “as needed” basis, contacting me or coming in for a session as the need arises.

Q:  How long will I need to be in therapy?

A:  Each patient is different depending on their presenting issues and their need.  Some issues can be resolved in as little as 12-15 sessions.  However, depending on the nature and severity of the difficulty for which you are seeking help, therapy can last up to a year or more.  The nature and length of the therapeutic relationship is constantly being evaluated and can change based on the needs and desires of the patient.

Q:  Do you accept any insurance for your services?

A:  I do not accept Insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. Payment is expected on a per session basis and is accepted by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover).  A receipt for payment is issued if requested and you can submit that to your insurance company if you have an out-of-network benefit for partial reimbursement of your out-of-pocket expense.  Please check with your insurance company before your first session to determine out-of-network benefits.
